Rock 102 Pet of the Week!
Say Hello to Jack!
Hey, thanks for taking a look at me. As you can already tell I am a very handsome boy and I love other dogs. I have a lot of energy, but can be calm after I get my proper exercise. I love toys and treats and a great belly rub. If you're in the market for a terrific black lab mix, come on up here and see me!
Jack is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Hello! Our names are Ben and Jerry and we are 4 yr. old neutered male Lab mixes. We’ve been here since mid-October, and still, we have no home to call our own. Christmas has come and gone, and still our Christmas wish has gone unanswered. Our only wish is to find a warm and loving home, where we can stay with one another, to play and grow old together. Is that so much to ask? We’ve already been through so much together…we’re not really sure what happened to our first family, but somehow we ended up lost, and found ourselves in the pound, scared that we wouldn’t make it out of there alive. The kind folks here at the FMHS saved us and brought us here, vowing to find us a new home. But each day, people walk past our kennel, without taking a second glance, because we are “black”, or because we are “Lab mixes”, or because we are “too big”. And because we’d like to stay together, we know it’s twice as hard to find us a home together. But isn’t there someone out there, willing to give a pair of brothers a second chance? We promise to be on our best behavior and to give you all the love and hugs you could ever ask for! So, please, help our Christmas wish come true…keep us together and give us the love we deserve—we promise, you won’t be sorry.
Bring The Noyes!!
Hey Rock 102 listeners! Noyes here, from the Rock 102 Fire Crew. Just bringing you your update blog from Baghdad. Obviously, we made it here safely. The trip was a long one, but the process begins way before we leave. Months before deploying, we have many courses to complete, physicals, military training and fire department training. A lot of work and paperwork goes into preparing a person for deployment. Even after all the training, a person is never fully prepared for what can happen during a deployment. We are given all the tools and knowledge we need and have to apply them to whatever situation we find ourselves.
Currently, there is a group of us from the Happy Hooligans 119th Wing Fire Department serving in Iraq. We, along with fire fighters from several other Guard bases in the U.S. are manning three different fire stations in the area of Baghdad. Our primary response area is BIAP or Baghdad International Airport and the surrounding U.S. and Iraq facilities. While here, we will be providing fire protection for the primary airfield and air base stuctures. We also will be conducting building and tent inspections to ensure that all living quarters are fire safe. Along with our duties, we are also required to conduct our daily training, which includes aircraft familiarization, class room work and live fire training. Training is an ongoing process, even though the temperatures sore well into the 100 degree mark and higher. The duration of our deployment falls during the summer. June and July are the hottest months, were the average high is 125 degrees and the low is only 80 degrees. We are constantly being reminded to drink water!
During our deployment, we will be training with the Iraqi fire fighters. They have had their initial fire training, but like us, they are required to do annual training to keep certifications current. We will begin training with them next week.
As of now, because of the draw down of U.S. forces, we will be the last U.S. Military Fire Department to occupy these stations. Our replacements will be contractors from various locations. This is a special thing for many of us who have deployed before, because this is history in the making, as we prepare to turn things over to the Iraqi Fire department. It's been a very long process and many people are glad to see this finally happen. It's a great feeling to know that we have helped to accomplish this!
Since arriving here, we have spent a few days doing base familiarization and getting to "know" the area. We have very little time with the individuals we are replacing and must use every little bit of time we get, to absorb as much information about our equipment and surroundings. We have now, fully taken over the departments and most of the previous people are gone. Now it is time for us to move forward and pick up where they left off.
The group before us was fortunate enough to have very few calls, but we have already doubled the amount of calls that they responded to. This is not an uncommon thing, as the temperatures start to increase. A number of our responses thus far, have been medical calls. Mostly, people who are not use to the heat and try to do too much, and become dehydrated. We have also responded to numerous smoke alarm activations, due to all the dust in the air from the dust storms. The crash trucks have also responded to a couple of engine fires on incoming aircraft. All minor incidents that occur on a regular basis for these conditions.
If any of you listeners are interseted in writing to the troops or sending care packages, I will include our info at the end of this post. We have access to many of the items we need, but it is always nice to get a little something from home, even when it is something as simple as a letter. I will include a list of things that people are requesting, in the next blog.
Until then, know that we are here safe and everyone is in good health. We hope you all are enjoying your summer and thanks for listening to Rock 102!!!
